Tuesday morning overreaction from the weekend that was in college football

Texas is back
What a game and show the Texas Longhorns and Notre Dame Fighting Irish put on Sunday night. The Longhorns looked ready to give this game away, but unlock the previous Charlie Strong teams at Texas, this group had the talent and leadership to hang out.
The Longhorns are back folks. They have a legitimate shot to win the Big 12 this season.
Oklahoma doesn’t appear to be the juggernaut many expected them to be. The league is a crapshoot after that.
Texas has one of the most unique two quarterback systems in the country. Shane Buechele and Tyrone Swoopes skillsets’ complement each other very well. Buechele is a future star in college football. Swoopes is unstoppable when running the ball between the tackles. Texas needs to clean some things up defensively, but all signs point to the Longhorns being back.

Alabama’s defense makes it the best team in the country
Think about this for a second: Alabama’s offense didn’t play particularly well, but the Crimson Tide still pounded a top-20 team 56-6.
Alabama’s defense may be the best Nick Saban has fielded during his team in Tuscaloosa. There is so much speed. Anytime it looked like USC had a play set up, two or more Alabama defenders swarmed in position to shut it down.
The amount of NFL talent on this defense is insane. Defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, linebacker Reuben Foster, linebacker Tim Williams and cornerback Marlon Humphrey are all projected top-25 prospects, according to CBSSports.com.
If Alabama figures out its quarterback situation, no one is beating this team with the big-play potential on offense and the stout defense.

Florida State is going to win the ACC
It took a while for them to wake up against Ole Miss, but Florida State showed why many believe they can win the ACC. Clemson has Deshaun Watson, and deserves a ton of respect for what they did last year. But the Tigers lost too much on defense.
Headlined by running back Dalvin Cook, Florida State has elite playmakers on offense. Quarterback Deondre Francois gives the Seminoles an extra boost with his running ability. Florida State’s defense locked the Rebels down in the second half. They were all over the field and forced Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly to commit four turnovers.
Florida State gets Clemson at home which is good.
Week 3 at Louisville will be another early test for the Seminoles. Get by Louisville and Clemson and Florida State may roll to the College Football Playoff.

Houston may make the College Football Playoff
Tom Herman is doing some wonderful things at Houston. Houston dominated Oklahoma on both lines of scrimmage. The final score of that game wasn’t indicative of what actually happened on the field.
Houston controlled most of the contest, and looked like the better team in every phase of the game. Looking at Houston’s schedule, they only have Louisville left in terms of big games. The Cougars will need to win out, and hope Oklahoma plays well the rest of the year to give their win an even bigger boost. It’s not too much of a stretch to think Houston could make the playoff this year.

It may be time for Les Miles to go
No year, same result. Offseason hype. In-season failures. If you’re an LSU fan, you can’t be happy with that performance against Wisconsin.
LSU should have won that game.
But LSU’s offense is the same. They still don’t have a quarterback. There is no imagination to the playcalling. All of that talent and the Tigers couldn’t score more than 14 points.
At some point the LSU fans have to look at the real problem: the head coach.
Sometimes programs need new blood in order to reach their potential. Things have been stagnant under Les Miles since the Tigers lost the national championship game to Alabama. Nothing appears to be getting better. It’s been a fun ride watching Miles and some of his goofy antics.
But it may be time for LSU to make a change.
